SmartFish strengthens its communication with an AI workshop
AI creation
SmartFish Value Rescue strives to make responsible seafood understood, valued and the preferred choice for consumers. To this end, we engaged a consultant in strategic communication, digital marketing and storytelling named Jeimi Andrea Ruiz Gacharná. The consultancy culminated in a team workshop on how to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in the communication of our work to promote sustainable fishing. During the workshop, the SmartFish team delved into good practices that help to turn news from the field into clear and useful content for diverse audiences (fishing communities, decision-makers, donors and other civil society organizations). We covered methods that capture information efficiently in the field (short audio, contextual photography, structured notes), prompting techniques – particularly the COAST approach (Context, Objective, Audience, Style, Template) – and a "dock-to-feed" flow that transforms testimonials and verified data into social media-ready publications in minutes. We also reviewed ethics and accessibility criteria (consent, protection of sensitive data, alt-text, scientific verification) and guidelines to measure impact on digital channels.
"For SmartFish, AI is not a substitute for listening at the local level or scientific rigor; it empowers them. These tools help us accelerate the translation of technical information into stories that inform and mobilize in favor of responsible fishing," commented SmartFish's management team.
"When there is data, context and purpose, AI becomes an ally to multiply the reach of good fishing practices and reduce the gap between science and citizens," said Jeimi Andrea Ruiz Gacharná.
This effort is part of our roadmap to strengthen evidence-based communication, professionalize the organization's digital presence, and accompany cooperatives and allies with timely, relevant, and culturally-sensitive materials.
In the coming weeks, we will continue the work with follow-up sessions and guides for internal use that will consolidate the flow of content production, from data collection in the field to publication and evaluation of results.
