Reason for Being 2025: Communities that care for nature

On October 29, our organization was recognized by Foundation Merced and Foundation Grisi through the Reason for Being 2025 call in the Environment category, for our work in support of sustainable fisheries that contribute to ocean conservation, community strengthening, and the well-being of fishing communities. This recognition focused on our Rescue Value Model, especially the project we developed in collaboration with the Islote de Agua Verde fishing cooperative.

During the ceremony, a group of members from SmartFish and representatives of the cooperative were present to receive the award on behalf of everyone who has contributed to making this effort possible. This achievement encourages us to continue moving forward in our mission—building capacities, promoting participatory projects, and scaling our model to other regions of Mexico, contributing to a fairer and more sustainable future for all the people who participate in the small-scale fisheries value chain in our country.
